One Young World is the result.
· For the first time ever, a global conference—simultaneously live in London and over social media worldwide, as well as world wide press in attendance—will gather young people so they can voice their opinions and create and enact resolutions on a host of issues, including climate change, politics, and human rights.
- A dedicated Plenary session on The Changing Power of The Media/New media
· Joined by the likes of Kofi Annan, Desmond Tutu and legendary activist Bob Geldof, representatives of the world’s youth will speak their minds and put forth resolutions that are not influenced by special interest groups. And the event will be transparent: no backdoor political wrangling, no spin control.
· One Young World (www.oneyoungworld.com), becoming known as the “Davos for under 25s,” will happen from Feb. 8 -10, 2009.
o It will include 1,000 delegates from around the planet in London – as well as participants via Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites, allowing the world’s youth to participate in this innovative project.
o One of the key requirements: You must be born after 1984.
· David Jones, global CEO of communications network Havas Worldwide, and a Young Global Leader attending the WEF Annual Meeting in Davos, has joined Kate Robertson, chairman of Euro RSCG Worldwide in the U.K., and a tireless advocate of using business and creativity to influence change, to launch One Young World.
o David is a passionate believer in the power of youth to bring change to many of the issues facing our planet. In addition to running one of the world’s leading advertising, marketing and design networks, David has created this forum for youth to act and deliver solutions to the issues that the UN, the G20 and the attendees at Davos continue to struggle with.
